How we work

How we compare

See at a glance which booking service provider earns you the most per charged kWh — but how does that comparison come about? On this page we explain exactly how we work.

Our principles in short

We are 100% independent

We are not affiliated with any booking service provider or other market party.

The best deal always comes first

The ranking in the comparison tool is determined solely by the estimated net payout or the commission. Not by sponsorship or paid placement.

We compare all booking service providers

We aim to include every booking service provider in the comparison, regardless of whether we have a commercial relationship with them.

We are transparent about our revenue model

Further down this page you can read exactly how we earn money, and why that has no influence on the order of the results.

100% independent

Independent, always

ERE-Vergelijk is an independent comparison site. We are not affiliated with any booking service provider, fuel supplier or other market party. No provider can buy a position in the comparison tool: commercial agreements have no influence on the order of the results.

We also aim for the most complete and up-to-date database of booking service providers in the Netherlands. That means we want to include all booking service providers in the comparison — including providers we have no commercial agreements with. Only then do you get a complete picture of the market.

The ranking: the best deal comes first

The order of the results in our comparison tool is determined by one thing: the estimated payout. The provider that is expected to leave you with the most per charged kWh comes first.

What does determine the ranking

The estimated net payout: what you are expected to keep per charged kWh.

What does not influence the ranking

  • Whether a provider pays us or not.
  • How much a provider pays us.
  • Sponsorship, advertising or other commercial agreements.

Two visitors with the same situation therefore always see the same ranking — regardless of which providers do or do not pay us.

How do we calculate the estimated payout?

The compensation for EREs (Emission Reduction Units) is determined by the current market value on the emissions market. Booking service providers collect the charged kWhs, register them with the NEa and sell the corresponding CO₂ reduction (EREs) on the open market to fuel suppliers.

Four factors matter when calculating the net payout:

Gross market price
Selling costs (±1.5%)
Commission
Fixed costs
Your net payout

The gross market price

The starting point is the current market price of ERE certificates on the emissions market. This price is set by supply and demand and therefore fluctuates. You can read more about this in our article What is the price of an ERE?.

The selling costs on the emissions market

Around 1.5% is withheld for the transaction on the trading exchange. These are the selling costs of the emissions market itself and they apply to all providers.

The commission

Most booking service providers withhold a percentage as compensation for their work: the audit, the registration with the NEa and the administration. This percentage differs per provider and is the main reason why the net payout varies between providers.

Some providers charge no commission and charge fixed monthly costs instead. This is always clearly indicated in the comparison tool.

VAT: if you drive for business, you can deduct the VAT on the commission. For private users the commission includes 21% VAT. Our comparison tool takes this into account, depending on whether you compare as a private or business user.

Fixed costs

Some booking service providers charge fixed service costs on top of the commission. Others, as mentioned, only charge fixed costs.

What you see with us: the net payout

In our comparison tool you always see the payout after deducting all of the costs above. So no gross amounts that disappoint in practice, but a realistic estimate of what you will actually receive.

Please note: the ERE market price moves continuously. The payout shown is therefore an estimated payout based on the current market price, not a guaranteed amount.

So how do we earn money?

Comparing itself is and will remain free. Our revenue model works like this:

Booking service providers can pay us for a direct sign-up option.

With providers that work with us, you can sign up directly via our sign-up form. With providers that do not work with us, for now we only show a link to their own website, where you can still sign up yourself.

So the difference is in the way you sign up, never in the position in the comparison. A paying provider does not rank higher, and a non-paying provider is not hidden or left out. The ranking remains based purely on the estimated payout.

This way our interests are aligned with those of our visitors: we only earn when we offer a complete and honest overview you can rely on.

What about advertising?

We may offer advertising space on the site in the future. If that happens, the same hard rule applies: advertisements will never influence the ranking in the comparison tool. Advertisements will also always be clearly recognisable as such, so you never have to wonder what is an ad and what is a comparison result.
