What to look for when choosing

Three things decide whether a charge point suits you: the MID meter, your connection and the readout. After that, a few useful extras.

ERE requires a charger with an integrated, MID-certified kWh meter (EN 50470-3). External sub-meters in the fuse box do not count for private individuals.

One phase or three

Your connection decides how fast you can charge. On one phase that is up to about 3.7 kW at 16 A or 7.4 kW at 32 A, on three phases up to about 11 kW at 16 A or 22 kW at 32 A. How much your car takes also depends on your car's on-board charger.

Smart and readable

Many ERE providers want to read your charging sessions automatically. A smart, connected charger avoids submitting meter readings by hand.

Why do I need a charger for ERE?

You earn ERE (emission reduction units) with the green power you charge at home. That's only possible with a charger that has an integrated, MID-certified meter to reliably record your charging sessions.

What does a suitable charger cost?

It varies a lot by model, brand and your fuse box. A charger with a built-in MID meter is often a little pricier than a basic model, but pays for itself through ERE. Use the request form to ask for a no-obligation quote for a suitable model.

Which chargers are suitable for ERE?

What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase?

The difference lies in your connection. On one phase you charge at up to about 3.7 kW at 16 A or 7.4 kW at 32 A, on three phases at up to about 11 kW at 16 A or 22 kW at 32 A. How fast your car actually charges also depends on your car's on-board charger. Many charge points suit both or come in both versions.

Do I need a smart charge point?

Not always, but it saves you work. Many ERE providers want to read your charging sessions automatically, and a smart, connected charge point makes that possible. Without that connection you submit your meter readings yourself, and not every ERE provider accepts that.

Can my current charge point get a MID meter?

Sometimes. For a few models the manufacturer offers a retrofit kit. Others come in a separate MID version, but then you replace the charge point itself. For most charge points it is not possible. Check your model in the MID checker: it shows for each model whether it has a built-in MID meter.
