About us

Auto-filled profile (draft)

Tap Electric is an Amsterdam e-mobility company with a charging app and its own charge card for EV drivers, plus a management platform for charge point owners and installers; it operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and the United Kingdom. With Tap Green Credits you redeem the EREs from your own charge point: Tap collects and checks the charging data, and registration runs through its partner Inboekers B.V. The service is open to private and business users, provided your charge point has a built-in MID meter and your charging data runs through Tap: the charge point is connected to Tap, or you charge with the Tap app or Tap charge card. You choose a term of one, two or three years; the longer you commit, the lower the commission, and according to Tap that commission covers all costs, including the audit and the sale of the certificates. Payout follows once a year, based on that year's average sales price minus the commission; switching to another provider is only possible once the term has ended.

Smart charger & MID meter

What is a smart charger?

A smart charger is a charging station that is connected to the internet and can automatically record and report your charging sessions to the provider. This lets the provider see exactly how many kWh were charged and when, and — for some services — steer the charging moment to take advantage of green electricity or lower tariffs. Whether your charging station must also be connected (OCPP, app or cloud) is up to the provider: the NEa only requires that the link with your charging station can be demonstrated — a photo of just a kWh reading is not enough.

A MID meter built into the charging station is mandatory

For ERE registration a MID meter built into the charging station is mandatory (NEa). The MID meter provides an accurate, legally valid record of the charged volume; without a MID meter the kWh cannot be converted into ERE units. The only exception the NEa names is an exclusive allocation point set up by your grid operator, behind which only the charger draws power — rare for home chargers.
