Joulz provides energy infrastructure and metering services to business and industrial customers — transformers, charging infrastructure, solar installations, battery storage, metering and energy management — from a head office on the Dutch Tech Campus in Zoetermeer and an office in Uithoorn. With Joulz Depot Charging the company builds scalable charging systems at company locations, for passenger cars and trucks, optionally financed through operational lease with management, maintenance and live monitoring included. The full-service depot charging package includes continuous monitoring and control, coupling with solar energy and ERE administration. Joulz guides the complete registration and booking of ERE's through a recognised ERE service provider, which it does not name, and includes the ERE income in the business case alongside subsidies and lease. Its own energy management system can steer self-generated solar power to the chargers, which according to Joulz raises the ERE yield per kWh. ERE is not a standalone product with its own terms: it comes with a Joulz charging project, which starts with a request for advice.

Smart charger & MID meter

What is a smart charger?

A smart charger is a charging station that is connected to the internet and can automatically record and report your charging sessions to the provider. This lets the provider see exactly how many kWh were charged and when, and — for some services — steer the charging moment to take advantage of green electricity or lower tariffs. Whether your charging station must also be connected (OCPP, app or cloud) is up to the provider: the NEa only requires that the link with your charging station can be demonstrated — a photo of just a kWh reading is not enough.

A MID meter built into the charging station is mandatory

For ERE registration a MID meter built into the charging station is mandatory (NEa). The MID meter provides an accurate, legally valid record of the charged volume; without a MID meter the kWh cannot be converted into ERE units. The only exception the NEa names is an exclusive allocation point set up by your grid operator, behind which only the charger draws power — rare for home chargers.
