VAROPreem

About us

Auto-filled profile (draft)

VAROPreem is the energy group created in January 2026 by VARO Energy's acquisition of Sweden's Preem; it refines, trades and distributes conventional and renewable fuels and operates in the Netherlands through VARO Energy Netherlands B.V. in Rotterdam, including the Argos filling-station brand and charging-infrastructure company elexon. The group is registered with the NEa as an ERE service provider. There is no ERE offering for private charge-point owners: the charging product VARO Charging targets business fleets with electric trucks and vans and combines electricity supply, charging hubs and the monetisation of renewable energy certificates in a single bespoke contract, without published rates. Fleet managers can enquire via an advisory call; for private users this is not a comparable offering. More information will appear here once the provider claims its profile.

Smart charger & MID meter

What is a smart charger?

A smart charger is a charging station that is connected to the internet and can automatically record and report your charging sessions to the provider. This lets the provider see exactly how many kWh were charged and when, and — for some services — steer the charging moment to take advantage of green electricity or lower tariffs.

A MID meter is almost always required

Regardless of whether the charger is smart or not, an MID-certified meter is almost always required for ERE. The MID meter provides an accurate, legally valid record of the charged volume. Without an MID meter, the kWh cannot be converted into ERE units. The only exception the NEa names is an exclusive allocation point set up by your grid operator, behind which only the charger draws power — rare for home chargers.
